C.W. Brown Inc., recognizes how important it is to manage their facility and business in an environmentally sound way by implementing programs that manage waste and environmental risks, establish emergency response procedures, recycle, water and energy conservation plans, ensure indoor air quality and implement green purchasing practices. Our company’s “Green” initiatives recognize our business impact on the environment and we are doing our part to minimize our impact. It is for this reason we received this award.

For years, the company has had an aggressive recycling program whereby we not only recycled paper, glass and plastics but metal, ceiling tiles and carpet from all of our construction projects. When you come to our office you see that steps have been taken to reduce our power consumption with motion censored light switches, energy star appliances and multiples zones for HVAC equipment, to name a few. But, most importantly, and the reason for C.W. Brown receiving this award is that C.W. Brown has invested in photovoltaic solar panels for their facility. These panels bring in energy from the sun and convert it into electricity. The company uses what energy they need to run their facility and what is left gets forwarded back to Con Ed to be used by other Con Ed customers. By doing this, the company accumulates a credit of energy called Net Metering. C.W. Brown has the distinction of being the first commercial building in the State of New York to activate net metering via its solar panels.
